Bucs Update... Bucs Sign Grimm

Buccaneers rookie safety Cody Grimm (photo by Cliff Welch/Pewter Report)

The Buccaneers continued to get their rookies under contract with the signing of safety Cody Grimm. Tampa Bay took the Virginia Tech product Grimm with their first pick in the seventh round of the 2010 NFL Draft. To make room on the Bucs roster the team released safety Dennis Rogan.

The Buccaneers continued to get their 2010 rookie class under contract before the start of training camp with the signing of safety Cody Grimm. The Virginia Tech product Grimm was the first player that Tampa Bay drafted in the seventh round with the 210th overall pick. Grimm will be competing for a roster spot with backup safeties Corey Lynch, De'Von Hall, and Matt O'Hanlon.

After taking Grimm, the Bucs went on to select linebacker Dekoda Watson and defensive end Erik Lorig in the seventh round. As a senior Grimm (6-1, 203) made 106 tackles with 12.5 tackles for a loss, four sacks, seven forced fumbles, and five passes broken up. Against North Carolina State Grimm had three forced fumbles.

Grimm is the son of Hall-of-Fame offensive linemen and current coach with the Arizona Cardinals Russ Grimm. Cody Grimm almost ended up playing for his father's team, but could play against Arizona next season if he makes the Bucs 53-man roster.

"It is going to be awesome. My dad called me in the sixth round and said they were talking about drafting me," Grimm said on draft day. "But the bottom line is they didn't, so if I get the opportunity to play against them. I obviously want to stick it to them."

Grimm comes from a college program that has earned a reputation of playing excellent special teams. Grimm knows that he must excel there in order to make the Buccaneers 53-man roster. There is a degree of continuity that should help Grimm make the team.

In high school and college Grimm was the personal protector for punter Brent Bowden. Tampa Bay selected Bowden a round before they took Grimm, and during the Bucs' spring practices Grimm was once again serving as Bowden's personal protector, although Grimm was the backup at that position behind running back/returner Clifton Smith.

Grimm is the sixth draft pick that the Buccaneers have signed. Previously Tampa Bay signed: wide receiver Mike Williams (fourth round), cornerback Myron Lewis (third round), defensive end Erik Lorig (seventh round), linebacker Dekoda Watson (seventh round), and punter Brent Bowden (sixth round). The Bucs only have one rookie left to sign; first round defensive tackle Gerald McCoy.

To make room on the Bucs roster the team released safety Dennis Rogan. He was signed by the team as an undrafted free agent on April 26.

McCoy deal close to getting done

With the start of training camp just days away, teams across the NFL are working hard to sign their first-round picks. Tampa Bay general manager Mark Dominik is trying to do just that with third-overall pick Gerald McCoy. The Oklahoma defensive tackle has hinted that his contract may not get done until his former college teammate Sam Bradford signs his contract with the St. Louis Rams. Bradford was the number one overall pick in last April's draft. One issue that the Bucs and McCoy are going to have to agree on is the length of the contract.

“We’re still internally wrestling between a five and six year deal,'' Dominik said. "It's always difficult when you're at the top of the first round. You've got to make a decision whiich is better for you and the club. That’s difficult enough as it is. Then you have issues like how you structure the contract, how to pay everything out. That can take a little time. There's so many moving parts to top five, top 10 deals. It makes them more difficult.

"But at the end of the day, every year these deals do get done on time for the most part.''

What would the IRS do to us as tax payers if we hid over 8 billion dollars... hopefully the same thing they do to themselves!

Pentagon Can't Account For $8.7 BILLION In Iraqi Reconstruction Money, Audit Finds
BAGHDAD — A U.S. audit has found that the Pentagon cannot account for over 95 percent of $9.1 billion in Iraq reconstruction money, spotlighting Iraqi complaints that there is little to show for the massive funds pumped into their cash-strapped, war-ravaged nation.

The $8.7 billion in question was Iraqi money managed by the Pentagon, not part of the $53 billion that Congress has allocated for rebuilding. It's cash that Iraq, which relies on volatile oil revenues to fuel its spending, can ill afford to lose.

"Iraq should take legal action to get back this huge amount of money," said Sabah al-Saedi, chairman of the Parliamentary Integrity Committee. The money "should be spent for rebuilding the country and providing services for this poor nation."

The report by the Special Inspector General for Iraq Reconstruction accused the Defense Department of lax oversight and weak controls, though not fraud.

"The breakdown in controls left the funds vulnerable to inappropriate uses and undetected loss," the audit said.

The Pentagon has repeatedly come under fire for apparent mismanagement of the reconstruction effort – as have Iraqi officials themselves.

Seven years after the U.S.-led invasion, electricity service is spotty, with generation capacity falling far short of demand. Fuel shortages are common and unemployment remains high, a testament to the country's inability to create new jobs or attract foreign investors.

Complaints surfaced from the start of the war in 2003, when soldiers failed to secure banks, armories and other facilities against looters. Since then the allegations have only multiplied, including investigations of fraud, awarding of contracts without the required government bidding process and allowing contractors to charge exorbitant fees with little oversight, or oversight that came too late.

But the latest report comes at a particularly critical time for Iraq. Four months after inconclusive elections, a new government has yet to be formed, raising fears that insurgents will tap into the political vacuum to stir sectarian unrest.

In a sign that insurgents are still intent on igniting sectarian violence, at least six people were killed and dozens more wounded when a female suicide bomber blew herself up near a checkpoint in the holy city of Karbala, local police said. They spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to speak to the media.

Thousands of Shiite pilgrims are converging on the city, 50 miles (80 kilometers) south of Baghdad, for an important religious holiday marking the birth of a Shiite saint known as the "Hidden Imam" who disappeared in the ninth century. Such mass displays of devotion by Shiites have often been targeted by Sunni extremists.

Iraqi lawmakers met Tuesday, but for the second time this month failed to convene a parliament session, leaving wide open the question of when the new government will take shape.

Underscoring its financial challenges, the International Monetary Fund in March approved a $3.6 billion loan to help Iraq meet its obligations. Iraq is projected to run a deficit through 2011, according to analysts, with a possibility of a surplus following that hinging on oil prices.

Iraq took a financial hit in 2008 as oil prices plummeted on the back of the global financial meltdown. While those prices have since rebounded, Iraq remains at the mercy of international oil markets, with revenues from petroleum sales accounting for over 90 percent of its government budget.

The $9.1 billion in question came from the Development Fund for Iraq, which was set up by the U.N. Security Council in 2003. The DFI includes revenues from Iraq's oil and gas exports, as well as frozen Iraqi assets and surplus funds from the defunct, Saddam Hussein-era U.N. oil-for-food program.

Iraq had given the U.S. authorization to tap into the fund, which is held in New York, for humanitarian and reconstruction efforts, withdrawing that approval in December 2007.

With the establishment of the Coalition Provisional Authority, which ran Iraq shortly after the start of the U.S. invasion in 2003 until mid-2004, about $20 billion was placed into the account. The $9.1 billion audited by the Iraq reconstruction inspector general were funds withdrawn from that account between 2004 and 2007.

The report found that the Defense Department could not "readily account for its obligations, expenditures and remaining balances associated" with the DFI. At issue was $8.7 billion, or 95 percent of the withdrawn funds.

Of this amount, the Pentagon could not account at all for $2.6 billion, according to the audit.

Tracing the rest of the money is difficult because of a combination of lax financial controls and management, the failure to designate an organization to oversee the spending and the failure to set up and deposit the funds in special accounts, as required by the Treasury Department.

The Defense Department, in responses attached to the audit, said it agreed with the report's recommendations to establish better guidelines for monitoring such funds, including appointing an oversight organization mostly likely by November.

The failure to properly manage billions in reconstruction funds has also hobbled the troubled U.S.-led effort to rebuild Afghanistan. About $60 billion have poured into Afghanistan since 2001 in hopes of bringing electricity, clean water, jobs, roads and education to the crippled country.

The U.S. alone has committed $51 billion to the project since 2001, and plans to raise the stakes to $71 billion over the next year – more than it has spent on reconstruction in Iraq since 2003.

An Associated Press investigation showed that the results so far – or lack of them – threaten to do more harm than good. The number of Afghans with access to electricity has increased from 6 percent in 2001 to only about 10 percent now, far short of the goal of providing power to 65 percent of urban and 25 percent of rural households by the end of this year.

As an example of the problems, a $100 million diesel-fueled power plant was built with the goal of delivering electricity to more than 500,000 residents of the capital, Kabul. The plant's costs tripled to $305 million as construction lagged a year behind schedule. The plant now often sits idle because the Afghans were able to import cheaper power from neighboring Uzbekistan before the plant came online.

T.O. to the Bengals

CINCINNATI -- A year after they were featured on HBO's "Hard Knocks," the Bengals have scripted their own reality show.
T.O. and Ocho. Two self-conscious stars, one NFL team.

Walker: 5 Reasons T.O. Will Work
The Bengals forged an interesting marriage by agreeing to a contract with Terrell Owens. This will mark the first time Owens and fellow flamboyant receiver Chad Ochocinco are on the same team, creating a potential circus atmosphere for Cincinnati, writes James Walker. Blog

How will they fit? How will it work? Which receiver will provide most of the drama?

And, more importantly, will any of it help the Bengals get back to the playoffs?

The Bengals and receiver Terrell Owens agreed to a two-year, $2 million deal, a league source told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter on Tuesday.

According to the source, the deal also includes another $2 million in incentives.

The Bengals were Owens' first choice, giving him a chance to team with close friend Chad Ochocinco, who has already dubbed the pair Batman and Robin. The Bengals made an offer on Monday, and Owens accepted a day later.

Players are required to report for the start of training camp on Wednesday in Georgetown, Ky. Owens is expected to show up when workouts begin on Thursday, a person familiar with the situation told The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because the team had made no announcement.

On his Twitter account, Owens replied to Ochocinco late Tuesday: "Ocho Uno is coming 2 town!! Hey Robin, Batman will b there soon!" He's expected to sign his deal when he arrives in Georgetown.

Already, it's like something out of a reality show.

Ochocinco gushed about the matchup on his Twitter feed, welcoming Owens and joking that "all of our games have been moved to pay-per-view, you got to pay to see this."

Both of the look-at-me receivers are accustomed to cable.

By adding the 36-year-old Owens, the Bengals will lead the NFL in reality show stars. Ochocinco competed on "Dancing With the Stars" in the offseason, and has a dating show called "Ochocinco: The Ultimate Catch" currently running on VH1. After Ochocinco's show comes "The T.O. Show."

Ochocinco's last show involved eliminating two contestants. Owens' last program had him walking down a runway as part of a fashion show in metrosexual attire -- bare chest under an open jacket with a huge necklace and a wig.

In a couple of days, it will be the dancer-and-dater on one side of the field, the metrosexual model on the other.

In the middle will be quarterback Carson Palmer, who helped bring Owens to Cincinnati. Palmer worked out with Owens in California and called coach Marvin Lewis, saying the team ought to try to sign him.

Owens
"He and Chad are going to do some great things with Carson," said Drew Rosenhaus, the agent for both receivers. "Carson Palmer had a lot to do with this deal coming together."

Bengals owner Mike Brown went along, even though he knew Owens also brings a lot of baggage. The outspoken receiver has a history of undercutting his quarterbacks, though he was on good behavior last season in Buffalo.

Brown doesn't mind. He has a history of providing extra chances to players who have caused trouble, allowing them to extend their careers in Bengals stripes. In the last two years, the Bengals also have signed receiver Chris Henry, running back Cedric Benson, running back Larry Johnson and receiver Matt Jones, all of whom were let go because of off-field issues.

"Yes, people can make mistakes," Brown said at the team's preseason luncheon on Monday. "It doesn't mean that they go on the rest of their lives making mistakes. They can get their ship pointed in the right direction. This is a 36-year-old man. He's been through a lot. He's proven as a player and as a person."

The question is how much he has left.

Owens caught 55 passes for 829 yards and five touchdowns with the Bills last season, his least-productive full season since early in his career with San Francisco. The Bengals are trying to upgrade a passing game that was one of the NFL's worst last season, ranking 26th.

The Bengals won the AFC North by relying on defense and their running game. They released receiver Laveranues Coles after his only season in Cincinnati, and went looking for a replacement. They gave Owens a tryout in March, but decided to sign Antonio Bryant to a four-year deal instead.

Brown had a one-on-one meeting with Owens and came away impressed. When the receiver was still available as camp was opening, Brown decided to add him, as well.

Owens was hoping for the offer.

"The Bengals have always been the front-runner," Rosenhaus said. "Even though I talked to some other teams during this process, the Bengals have always been the team that showed the most interest. Terrell has always been excited about them."

Rosenhaus also has talked to the Bengals about a contract extension for Ochocinco, who is on the final year of a deal that includes a team option for 2011.

"We've been in discussion potentially about doing an extension," Rosenhaus said. "So we'll keep that going. It's been very cordial, very positive."

Maurice taking his ass back to college!

maurice clarett prison
Maurice Clarett says “F*ck a Thug,” I’m taking my a$s back to school:

Ohio State University says former football star Maurice Clarett is back in school to pursue his degree after spending more than three years in prison. Ohio State spokesman Jim Lynch says in a statement that Clarett started classes on Monday after he was readmitted by the College of Education and Human Ecology, where he was originally enrolled. Clarett pleaded guilty in 2006 to aggravated robbery and carrying a concealed weapon, and served 3 1/2 years in a Toledo prison, where he took college-credit courses. The ex-football star says in a statement that it is a “surreal feeling to be back at Ohio State” and that he doesn’t want to be a “distraction or nuisance” to the team or other students.

As a freshman, Clarett scored the winning touchdown in the second overtime of the Fiesta Bowl against Miami to lead Ohio State to the 2002 national championship, the school’s first since 1968. But Clarett was suspended for the 2003 season because he was charged with falsifying a police report. He dropped out of school, then sued unsuccessfully to be included in the 2004 NFL draft. He was a surprise third-round pick in the 2005 draft but was cut by the Denver Broncos during the preseason.

On Aug. 9, 2006, police noticed Clarett’s SUV driving erratically. A highway chase ensued, ending when police spiked Clarett’s tires, sending his vehicle limping into a restaurant parking lot. Officers said they could not easily subdue Clarett because the bulletproof vest he was wearing thwarted their stun guns. It took several police using pepper spray to get the 6-foot, 245-pounder into handcuffs.

Good for him. Hopefully those three years have had an effect on his mentality because apparently he was on that bullsh*t ‘thug mentality’ foolishness before.

Bucs Sign Second Round Pick Arrelious Benn to 4 year contract

Bucs rookie wide receiver Arrelious Benn (photo by Cliff Welch/Pewter Report)
The Buccaneers acquired another one of their top picks with the signing of wide receiver Arrelious Benn. Tampa Bay selected Benn with their second pick in the second round of the 2010 NFL Draft. Benn signed a four-year deal with a $2.1 million signing bonus, according to multiple reports.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have another member of their 2010 rookie class under contract with the addition of Arrelious Benn. Benn signed a four-year contract with a $2.1 million signing bonus, according to multiple reports. The Bucs selected the Illinois wide receiver with their second pick in the second round (39th overall) after they traded up with the Oakland Raiders to land his services.
With the wide receiver position in need of a serious overhaul, Benn was the first of two receivers that the Buccaneers selected in the draft. The other being Syracuse’s Mike Williams, who the Bucs selected in the fourth round and inked to a four-year deal in June. In addition to those two rookies, the Bucs also acquired receiver Reggie Brown via trade from the Philadelphia Eagles earlier in the offseason. The team is hoping that those three additions, along with holdovers Maurice Stovall and Sammie Stroughter, will give second-year quarterback Josh Freeman some much needed firepower to work with.
Benn, 6-foot-1, 219 pounds, has a great combination of size and speed and is in competition for the flanker (Z receiver) position. Despite battling an ankle injury, Benn had a nice offseason during the OTAs (organized team activities) and mini-camps. Benn figures to see more reps when the pads come on during training camp, which starts July 31 at One Buccaneer Place.
In his three years at Illinois, Benn caught 159 passes for 2,221 yards (14 yards per catch) and seven touchdowns. For the Fighting Illini, Benn was one of their most dynamic weapons so they got him the ball in a variety of ways outside of wide receiver. Benn ran the ball 62 times for 282 yards (4.5 yard average) and three touchdowns out of the Illinois spread offense.
He returned 42 kickoffs for 996 yards (23.7 yard average) and one touchdown. On punt returns Benn had 114 yards on 15 returns (7.6 yard average). His best season was his sophomore year when he caught 67 passes for 1,055 yards (15.7 yard average) and three touchdowns. Last season, Benn was hampered by injuries and poor quarterback play. He caught 38 passes for 490 yards and two touchdowns.

The Buccaneers now have seven of their nine draft picks under contract. The remaining two players yet to be signed are first-round pick Gerald McCoy and seventh-round pick Cody Grimm.

Favre ballin at 50?

Brett Favre offered up an interesting glimpse into his way of thinking in an interview with USA Today, saying that at the end of a long season he thinks he's going to retire, but after a few months off he thinks he could play for another decade.

Favre said that six months ago, after the Vikings lost the NFC Championship, he firmly believed he was finished playing football.

"I can remember walking off that podium with Deanna and my family thinking, 'I'm done,'" Favre said. "I mean, my heart . . . it was broken."

But after an offseason of rest and relaxation, followed by ankle surgery and rehabilitation, Favre now says he doesn't see any reason he should quit any time soon.

"Hell, you gotta quit sometime," Favre said. "Then again, maybe I will be doing this when I'm 50 years old, who knows?"

Who knows, indeed. But Favre sure doesn't sound like a man who's going to retire any time soon.

MYA could still get it.

MAVADO MAY HAVE ISSUES SIGNING TO DEF JAM!

So last week, I said that reggae superstar Mavado may be joining Def Jam, but there may be an issue that I sure didn't foresee. I am getting rumors from my people in Jamaica and they are telling me that Mavado may have some visa issues and that his visa may have been revoked. Now, I am not sure, but, but Mavado may have some issues with either the US gov. or the Jamaican Government and that's holding things up. I'm unclear, but hopefully they work it out.

  • Does @LupeFiasco’s music/Brand/Marketing/Promotion/or #Wewantlazers “Movement” come anywhere close to resembling those powerhouses?
  • There’s no reason why it shouldn’t tho… He has the talent.. he HAD the funding.. he had the labels.. and he HAD the cosign @LupeFiasco
  • - He also HAD the music..once upon a time..this new shit.. I can’t listen to it.. it’s not for the masses..I dont know who its for @LupeFiasco
  • - Why do I care so much? Bcuz I know exactly what went into building @LupeFiasco to be where he is today.. & beyond all that.. I’m still a fan
  • And to sit here and watch all this unfold.. personal bias of Wasalu aside.. is just a damn catastrophe.. it’s ironically a @LupeFiasco
  • But it seem like the more ppl that sit by the camp fire waitin for @LupeFiasco to do, the less he does & more appalled he seems at the idea
  • So the real question is: Why the f**k you here then? @LupeFiasco Just go away if you don’t want the pressures of pleasing ppl.. 32 minutes ago via web

Like it wasnt obvious... Drake is going to be on Wayne's EP that drops September

Drake revealed that he will be a featured guest on Weezy's September EP I'm Not A Human Being.
"I'm on it," Drake said. While our talk continued with the 23-year-old Toronto native, he also said that his mentor was in that rare space where fans loved him no matter what.
"It's gonna transfer over to whatever he does," Drake said of Weezy's following. "They're waiting for that new Wayne. I don't know if people are waiting for that new Drake. Thank Me Later was great — it was phenomenal things I've never seen, like people lining up. But it might have just been the moment — that's yet to be proven. But Wayne is just a proven artist. There's no doubt in my mind that people are waiting for that I'm Not a Human Being, that Carter IV, that Wayne and Drake album. All that!"

HERE WE GO AGAIN! ARF ARF! lol

Troubled rapper Earl "DMX" Simmons has headed back to jail to serve time on a crime he committed around 2002.

Details on X's decision to turn himself over to authorities landed online Monday (July 26).
DMX turned himself in to the Los Angeles Metropolitan Courthouse on Monday afternoon (July 26) at about 2:30 p.m. to begin serving a 90-day sentence stemming from a 2002 reckless driving charge, according to his attorney. X was arrested for DUI way back in '02, but reached a plea deal for a lesser charge of reckless driving, the rapper's lawyer, Aja Southern, told MTV News on Monday. Southern alleged that a series of events, including X having to serve time in an Arizona jail on an unrelated charge, had caused her client to postpone his L.A. sentence.

Charles Hamilton needs better Staff... the shit he do is crazy and people would feel it.... he currently checked himself into a mental hospital

Rapper Charles Hamilton has been trying to break in the game for a little minute now but things just haven’t been working out. After being chin checked by his pregnant baby mama now he has been committed to the New York Presbyterian Mental Hospital for… PEACE OF MIND?!?! This brings a whole new meaning to the phrase”The Industry Made Me Do It!!!”
Charles Hamilton Checks in Mentat Institution
Pop the Top for This Interview from the Psych Ward

Charles Hamilton: Basically my stay here[NY Presbyterian Mental Hospital] is like identical to my stay in the industry. As far as being the new guy in here having to deal with politics & people trying to control you. The critics would have to be the doctors and the rounds [medicine guys]. So you can say this is like an experiment to see if the industry is really like an asylum or if I was the one bugging. Some say the Industry is like High School but it’s just like a [mental hospital].

So Who Are You Fellow Artists???

Charles Hamilton: My fellow artists would have to be my fellow patients, and they’re just as frustrated as [rappers] cause they have to take their meds and the patients in the Industry [rappers] have to take their medicine which is Industry politics. I’m the retard who takes of my med bracelet and I just do exactly what I’m not supposed to do. All I would normally do, like the stuff I do people think its irregular and people that really know me are like whats everyone mad about he’s just being himself. In this hospital I can really be my natural self. Just like I am in the Industry but everyone is so content with putting up this fake imagery that feel like being yourself ruins your image. Everything I’ve done in this industry, whether it was based on outside speculation, peer pressure, or the outside feeling I was being extorted or the outside feeling I was buggin out, I remained true to me. I do it like I’ve done everything else in my life, it’s just like I’VE ALWAYS BEEN VALEDICTORIAN MATERIAL BUT I’VE MADE SURE I WAS THE CLASS FAILURE just to prove a point to administrators and the people who make money off students in the school. I’m the kid in the back of the class that will probably get beat up by all your favorite bullies and is smarter than any kid that’s ever stepped into the school but is failing…

What Are You Trying To Accomplish???

Charles Hamilton: PEACE OF MIND

Is This Not Possible On The Outside???

Charles Hamilton: Interesting question. No safer way to answer it other than the reason why I’m here is in the music. Definitely will reveal itself in the music even more when I get out.

So How Far Does Your Love Of Music Go???

Charles Hamilton: Too far, that was one of the reasons I checked in here. All I wanted to do and still want to do is make music. It got to the point where I started talking in rhymes all the time, even in just regular conversations. And music just became me, so I thought it’d be a good idea if i checked into the hospital just to get my mind right.

Do You Think There’s An Evil Force Driving The Hip-Hop Industry Right Now???

Charles Hamilton: I think once you get into the Industry, it’s not even about Hip-Hop anymore, they just want to make their money. They don’t care if you wack or not, as long as they get a dollar off you they’re going to use you.

What’s The Wale Situation???

Charles Hamilton: I think I was just a guy he was going to diss at the end of his freestyles. No situation. Ni**as just think it’s cool to diss me.

Kanye?

Charles Hamilton: He’s working on his new album that’s dropping soon. September 14th. I would love a Kanye/Charles Hamilton collabo. But I guess who know’s if that’s going to happen in the future.

Know You and B.O.B are real close??? He’s been showing support???

Charles Hamilton: Shouts to Bobby Ray Simmons. B.O.B. to y’all. He is, by a mile, the only artist who has reached out to me. Anyway, BoB is doing what he must in this business. I wish I had the desire to be a megastar. As it stands now, I only want to be the Charlie Llama. A voice youth of all ages can turn to for a sense of unparalleled paralleled friendship and companionship.

What Are Your Thoughts On The Current State Of Hip-Hop???

Charles Hamilton: What do you call baseball players on steroids, Lindsay Lohan, and Wall Street???

What???

Charles Hamilton: The current state of the Hip Hop Game.

Even though Charles is currently a resident of a mental hospital, he ‘s somewhat making a lot of sense. Do you think he has gone to far by committing himself and being amongst the psychos or he’s just plain crazy???

Getting Sued for Doing Your Job...lol

TV judge Simon Cowell is being sued for $3.8 million for just doing his job.

Simon Cowell sued by a British contestant for $3.8 million. The contestant has sued Simon Cowell for injured feelings, exploitation, humiliation, degradation, and barbarism. It seems even a critical judge like Simon Cowell can actually be sued for barbarism.

Cowell is being accused of humiliating British contestant Emma Amelia Pearl Czikai, who claims she was degraded on the TV show in a broadcast in May 2009. Czikai first lodged her complaint of unfairness and discrimination with a British employment tribunal in January. The tribunal action emerged in the press following a pretrial review at the central London tribunal court.

Czikai, representing herself, accused the show and its judges of "exploitation, humiliation, degradation and barbarism." She also claimed the show was guilty of disability discrimination because it had not made adjustments for her, such as lowering the level of backing music and microphone levels. "This program makes a select number of rich people very, very rich on the backs of the ordinary man and woman in the street through exploitation, humiliation, degradation and a re-emergence of modern-day barbarism with all its inherent cruelty," Emma Amelia Pearl Czikai said in a statement.

The one-time nurse reportedly told the tribunal she suffers from cervical spine neuritis, which can cause head and shoulder pain, which in turn caused her singing to suffer. The pretrial review, which will decide if a full hearing will go ahead, was told that she was seeking $458,000 for injured feelings and compensation of $1.5 million. In addition, she claims a loss of earnings of $1.9 million. I'm all for helping those that have injured feelings, but a $3.8 million lawsuit against Simon Cowell is a bit unreal.
