ST. PETERSBURG — When told his $2 was not enough to purchase a pack of cigarettes, a man pulled out a knife at a gas station Monday night and told a clerk, "How about cigarettes now?" according to St. Petersburg police.
He then got his cigarettes at the Chevron gas station at 5405 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. St. N. about 8:30 p.m., police spokesman Mike Puetz said.
The man shook the hand of the clerk and clerk's wife before leaving on a bicycle, police said.
The suspect was described as a white man in early 20s with black curly hair and a black shirt and shorts, Puetz said.
