His NBA comparison is Brendan Haywood with more mass, more power and more agility. Daniel Orton didn’t get much playing time in his only season at Kentucky due to the presence of fellow NBA prospect DeMarcus Cousins, who was selected fifth overall by the Sacramento Kings.
The 6-10 bohemian out of Oklahoma City has the potential to be a tremendous post defender and relentless rebounder in the NBA. Orton has a long wingspan and can muscle with seasoned NBA veterans despite turning just 20 in August.
He can be a difference-maker on the defensive end and is prominent for his persistent attempt to block and alter shots. The 255-pound center will also need to show he has completely overcome a knee injury he suffered during his senior year of high school.
He will certainly get a great deal of exercise at practice when he contends with Dwight Howard. Many NBA analysts suggest that if Orton had stayed in school for another year or two, he would have been a lottery selection.
Orton will need to improve on his overall knowledge of the game and will need to be very careful with the ball.

He was regarded as one of the most athletic talents in this year’s draft, and the Orlando Magic were pleased to see he was still available at pick 59 of the second round.
Stanley Robinson, a versatile and explosive forward out of UConn, will give the Magic an athletic presence. He is excellent at slashing to the basket and finishing with authority. Robinson also possesses the tough-minded attitude that carries over to the defensive end of the floor.
He was one of the more experienced players in the draft after competing for four years in college and playing in the NCAA Final Four in 2009.
The Birmingham, Ala. native must improve his outside shooting to become a formidable rotation player for Orlando. He will join Orton on the Magic’s Summer League team and should be a solid addition to the roster.
